Ultrasound

Ultrasound: Kleinpeter & Cramer Ultrasonography has become an invaluable tool in locating, describing, and evaluating injuries to soft tissues such as tendons, ligaments, and cartilage.

What once was merely seen as a tendon bow or swollen leg can now be 'seen' through ultrasonography by the doctors at Kleinpeter & Cramer. The doctor will locate an area of interest through the lameness examination, history, and nerve blocks.

If a tear to a tendon or ligament is suspected, the area is surveyed with an ultrasound probe to examine the fibers in question.  Tendon bows are now known to be due to swelling and tearing of the fibers of the tendons which can be visualized using ultrasonography.

Ultrasound works by transmitting soundwaves into a tissue which bounce off of the tissue at different rates depending on tissue density.  Swelling, or fluid, in a tendon produces an image with more black in it because more of the soundwaves have passed through the fluid than the surrounding tendon.

Ultrasound: Kleinpeter & Cramer Once a disruption of the normal anatomy is located and measured we are able to chart the progress of healing.  Additionally, ultrasound guidance allows us to find the best location for shockwave therapy or to inject stem cells into the lesion to promote the best possible allignment of the tendon fibers as they heal.
